I don't no you in person nor Marcus nor Stefan. But I deeply respect
all of you for different reasons. In my opinion this whole process
went in the wrong direction. It started with Marcus against Millennium,
now it is the Rebel Team against Stefan, and in my opinion such
discussions that you started here, move the whole thing toward "one part
of the computer chess world against another part".

To state it explicitly: it is not my job to judge the one behavior or
the other. But comparing the contents of the posts in CCC (and other
forums in Germany) the trend is that one year ago (when I started with
computer chess), the authors of chess programs congratulated each
other for success (like number one in SSDF, or winning a tournament),
and the dirt was thrown between the fanatic users of the chess programs.
Today, the fight is between the authors of chess programs, and everybody
who attends in this contributes to damaging the whole profession - not
personally but in general.

So my hope is that you, Ed, Christophe, Stefan and all the others are
the big persons in the background who provide us with excellent chess
software. My guess is that such discussions harm all of you. And a
clear winner will not be found - and if so: who will profit by
such a victory.

It's a pitty - for sure - that the Marcus versus Millennium trials
started. Both sides believe to be right. But in my opinion neither side
is willing to retreat. And the more persons become involved somewhere
the less are the chances that the whole thing will end in smoke.

My wishes (well, it is not Christmas yet, but anyway) are:
1. Stefan should influence Millennium to retreat
2. Ed, Christophe should influence Marcus to retreat
3. Nobody shall light more fire in this case
4. All of you shall meet and discuss (perhaps at the home of
Christophe these days ...)

These are just my thoughts! And of course: I do not earn money
with computer chess! This make it much easier to write such posts.

Joachim
