I have to agree with another poster and say that the previous message shgould be in bold and the new message should be normal. How about giving that a try. For me I like the bold and the colours, I think normal black writing for the current message, black bold for the previous message, and colours for anything older, I would think that would be fine, and make it very easy to follow long threads.
