I must be missing something. Could you elaborate on how it may be bad?

I don't understand why? He would not have learned anything *without* the
experiment and he did not burn any bridges doing so. It was all quite benign and
I would encourage him to continue with more experiments. I found it quite
instructional as did most everyone else I believe.
