I have looked at a game played by cray blitz on and off for a little while namely 18th ACM dallas 1987 against Chiptest to see for 1 how crafty compares to Cray Blitz 2 How todays top programs compare to Chiptest (the forerunner of Deep Thought/Blue Before i was able to find draws for CB but no wins, before i disagreed with 14 Na4 but now i find that move didn't matter too much. CB did miss a draw on move 22 by the way of Rxe5 so in this respect how much stronger is Crafty i am not sure how the ratings would work but to draw 1 out of 4 games you must be within 300points Crafty deserves some kind of honorable mention at a minimum 396points below Cray Blitz on the 1987 hardware.... the draw is found right away but more important the win....... move 20 Ba5! Nge5 21 Nxd4 Nxg4 22.Rxe8+ Kb7 23.Ne6 Qxd1 24.Kxd1 Nxf2+ 25.Ke2 Nxh3 26.Rd8 bxa4 27.Rxd7+ Ka6 28.Bc3 a3 29.bxa3 move was found after 12 minutes on my 800mhz athlon but changed it's mind only to return after 1511592000 nodes 1 hour 13 minutes and 37 seconds Cray Blitz lost this game Chiptest's performance was 2574 later the system earned a 2506 against Humans so at a minimum Crafty is 2200 against humans maybe 0n the 20ghz it's 2600?? save your pennies for when amd or intel come out with the 20Ghz machines (6 years maybe) you will have deep Thought in your living room.
