I used to keep the deepest position always.  Until the other day folks were
discussing a hash table test position on ICC (sorry, I didn't keep it -- kings
and blocked pawns) that it couldn't solve.  After changing to always-replace,
it solved the position quite easily.  I've left it this way for the time
being until I get time to do some real testing.  Interestingly, it has set
it's best ratings in bullet, blitz and standard on iCC in the past couple of
days... Hmm.  :)
