Subject: How close are Top programs to Deep Thought......

Author: Joshua Lee

Ihave been looking at different DT games and have noticed that the fact DT is
losing is so deep it takes a depth of over 16 for fritz if not more.
Just look at it's game against Walter Browne in 1988

33.Bd2 Rf8 34.Rxe5 Nxe5 35.Re1 Nc6 36.Re6 0-1

If it takes fritz 14 ply to see DT is -+ 1.4 at move 24 it would take 18ply at
move 22 and to back that up it was looking at 16ply on move 22 when it found
that it was at a disadvantage of =/+ of .56

if move 13 being the first move out of book wouldn't one need 36Ply to be
stronger than the average GM? How much Depth does one need? Quality is sometimes
better than qantity lets say Gandalf , Hiarcs or Shredder, How much depth do
they need to be 2500Fide? Don't get me wrong fritz is a good program but others
are better posistionally. Thanks
