Chess Genius on a standard, low end, 16MHz Palm: about 1900 USCF, probably. PocketChess (1 or 2 - no engine changes, I'm told) - 1500, perhaps. Note that Chess Genius uses the 680X0 assembly code Mephisto Roma chess engine (The 1987 World Champion), which is rated by the SSDF at 1870+/-18 on a 12 MHz 68000 (see #141 on the list: http://home.swipnet.se/~w-36794/ssdf/rlwww004.txt ) and at 1930 +/-27 on a 14 MHz 68020 (see #127 on the same list). On an entry level Palm ($149), the processor runs at a higher clock rate (16 MHz), which will add strength, all other things being equal. I don't know whether Palm's DragonBall processor runs 680X0 code with efficiency closer to the 68000 or the 68020. Also, neither Palm program thinks on its opponent's time, which should weaken things by about 30 rating points, all other things being equal, but the increased clock rate will partially compensate for that. >>Thanks in advance >>Bill > >And the price of the Palm IIIe please, thanks > >MRB. The Palm IIIe is discontinued - the entry level Palm is the M100 - $149 at www.buy.com. The Handspring Visor ($149 at www.handspring.com) is a similarly priced machine running the Palm OS which will also run Chess Genius -Richard
