In general you would need the KRNKR, KRBKR, KRRKR and KQRKR to ensure that it
works properly, so you're right. Fortunately, the last two are available at
Hyatt's site.

Some programs are to handle promotion without all the tables AFAIK. Ie. being
able to promote to queen because knight and bishop means a draw (I think). But
I'm not sure. Better ask Hyatt about this stuff.

That's not surprising at all. Generating TB's needs a lot of RAM and a fast CPU.
