First, a clarification. RedHat 7.0 has bugs. 6.2 and earlier versions are fine. I don't know about Mandrake as I have been using RedHat for several years after switching from SlackWare. Second, I don't teach all my students RedHat or any other unix. I was talking about a continuing education set of courses we offer (not university credit courses) to the community. > >I am Interested Bob because I am running windows 95 (dont like it), been to 98 >and I thought it had too many bugs (or was it me ?), my Sons who are computer >programars tell me that they do not like Windows 2000 ! The thing you lose is the ability to run all the windows-compatible software that is out there. Yes there is a thing called "wine" that runs windows apps. But not all of them. And there are bugs in it. > >I am getting a new Athlon Computer in Jan. or Feb. and I will be hanged if I >know what operating system to order, except it will not be Windows 95. Linux is totally reliable and we use it in several labs here, but remember the software application issue. >Wayne > >PS: The only things I use a Computer for are the following in a priority order. > >1) Chess >2) Talking to my Family via Dialpad >3) Sports news >4) Flight simulators >5) Gardening information such as Avacado tree Care >6) Medical Information > >That is mostly it.
