First, a clarification. RedHat 7.0 has bugs. 6.2 and earlier versions are
fine. I don't know about Mandrake as I have been using RedHat for several
years after switching from SlackWare.

Second, I don't teach all my students RedHat or any other unix. I was talking
about a continuing education set of courses we offer (not university credit
courses) to the community.

Linux works well for me. The thing you lose is the ability to run all the
windows-compatible software that is out there. Yes there is a thing called
"wine" that runs windows apps. But not all of them. And there are bugs in
it.

That's a matter of personal taste. NT works fine. 2000 has some glitches
that I don't like for our lab setting. Linux is totally reliable and we use
it in several labs here, but remember the software application issue.
