It has won alot of crucial games in the ending or late middlegame(eg. see Paderborn WCCC vs Rebel and Junior) and saved a good number of lost ones. This seems to be why it is one of the hardest programs to beat! The other program to get a very notable mention is crafty. While crafty's opening book and middlegame play might lag a little behind some of the commercial programs, I think it is right up there with its endgame. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it is better than alot of commercial programs in the endgame. Bob has put alot of effort into understanding passed pawns and potential passed pawns, and of course crafty uses tablebases very well. cheers, Peter
