What's so magical about 40/2 or 40/2.5 or 30/2? They're all blitz compared to postal chess, which is chess for true purists (and not incidentally the arena in which computers have the least chance against strong humans). OTB is not chess for purists, but a public entertainment, which depends as much on physical stamina, nerves, and pure luck, as on true chess understanding. If speeding it up makes it more appealing to spectators, then there's a better chance for GM chess to survive. Certainly GM tournaments haven't been finding many sponsors in recent years, so why not give this a try?
