>postal chess, which is chess for true purists A nice and provocative statement! I like it, but it's absolutely untrue. The *purist* is for OTB, as the game was developed as a pure OTB game. The purists are indeed against spectators, as it only disturbs their thinking process. Maybe purists also are also not in favour of using a clock at all, but we use it so long, that a living purist must be a mummie from the 19th century. >OTB <snip> >depends as much on physical >stamina, nerves, and pure luck, as on true chess understanding. No doubt that any gameplay was developed with that in mind. All those elements you name make up a game, any game, chess included. As much as I like postal chess, it is a (respected) form of chess, but abberated from its'original OTB form. Jeroen ;-}
