Do you believe that a direct king assault usually involves some material sacrifices? Somehow programmers might work doubly hard around this assumption. The advantages of directing all pieces to opponent's king are great and it has to be noted also that many promising combinations will arise if a program will explore first the moves which will attempt to attack the king. Here is one sample test position: The goal is 1. Bf6 with threats of Rg4 or Qe5->Qg5, basically mating attacks. Black can not take the bishop directly because of Rg4+ and white wins the black's queen in a6. one variation is: 1...Rfc8 2.Qe5 Rc5 3.Qg3 with advantage to white. [D]r4rk1/p4ppp/qp2p3/b5B1/n1R5/5N2/PP2QPPP/1R4K1 w - - 0 1 Although there are other moves by white besides Bf6, is there any program that favors this move? Dinan
