lots of info on the internet about new 64-bit processors, alpha, amd, intel, and ibm, all have their versions. the mhz on these processors for 2001 seems to be substantial. microsoft is working on their version of a 64-bit windows operating system, for release in 2001. and there are other 64-bit operating systems available now. some of these processors will support smp. there are advancments in large on-die cache. there will be releases of 1500 to 2500 mhz processors, in the next few years. with 64-bits of data moving around, and these working together in 2-way, 4-way and 8-way, it seems these would be very strong for chess programs. it seems this 64-bit technology will hit the home pc soon, in a single processor version. so where do we stand with the top chess programs being compatible with the 64-bit technology. are these being worked on now, or is it too early to be concerned about this developement. someday kns will be an obsolete chess term no longer used.
