The ExaChess author, r.exner@trl.oz.au (Rolf Exner) should be able to tell you what he uses, if this is of interest. If nothing else, that might let you use ExaChess Lite as the GUI, even though you might have to write the Telnet interface yourself. - I believe that Fixation author has his ICS interface code available on his Web site - I sort of remember that ICS was a telnet interface at some point. If that has now changed, there were some ancient FICS/ICS clients that probably do things the old way.
