I'm no computer expert, but it sounds like Chess Mentor might have corrupted the
COMCTL32.DLL file, or wrote an older (or newer) version of it to your
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder. Before you do a complete re-install, I suggest you
make a boot-up disk, as the other poster suggested, then copy a clean version of
COMCTL32.DLL file to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. You can find a copy of this file on
your wife's laptop. It's small enough to copy to a single floppy. Hopefully
this will save you from doing a complete re-install. I've never been very
succesful with re-installs. Good luck.
