Subject: OFF-TOPIC- Server information?

I would like to learn where I can find information on building a server on the
web. I tried http://www.altavista.com and http://www.tomshardware.com but did
not find what I am looking for. What I basically need is to learn some basic
idea on building a server such as what to look for on a board, when one needs a
second processor, Xeon, when one needs RAID, and stuff like that. We are
planning on a server for a LAN, but I do not where to look for.

How hard is it to setup an ICS such as FICS? Not as sophisticated as ICC but
basic enough to let players come and play. As far as I know, I can download the
source code for an old version of FICS from their ftp site, run a Pentium, Unix
(Would Linux be all right?), and have a constant Internet connection (nothing
related to dial-up?). This is just a thought hopefully that will turn to into
action one day but would appreciate any information.

  Thank you for your time.
