That really was said in a nice way ;-)

Me reading was like : " WHAT ???? HAVE THEY GONE COMPLETELY MAD ???"

I have no idea what those guys have smoked before making this strange decision .

Most probably none of them has _ever_ played games in an online chess community
.

I think Stuart is right : this really is a challenge _many_ ordinary
chessplayers will take , like : " Once in a lifetime I play for the title !" and
I also think Pete Galati is right : it is kind of a perfect ad for their gaming
site that I never before have even heard of .

But my title was chosen by purpose : if they really do it this way it is nothing
more than a perfect boost for chessprogram sales that _will_ influence
development in computerchess .

I liked Aaron's comment :

"I'm sure many players would love to turn up and trade pawns with the Elite,
even
if FIDE didn't pay anything..

I'm still waiting to see a 1200 player turn up and face Shirov in round 1..LOL..
"

Right at this moment while I am typing I am definitely sure there are at least
200 players online at some chess site cheating with their chessprograms claiming
they are some strong human player .

And for what prize ? A worthless online rating or a place on some ladder ranking
system or some fake "respect" .

Now we have a new one : a free place in the next World championship and a chance
to play some games against the best of the best .

"Hey daddy , can you get me the new CM8000 and this new Athlon computer ? My
friends all already got it and I want to participate in this FIDE thing !"

_This_ btw is the thing that really annoys me most : those more or less innocent
ones who will waste their times this way .

Those can be caught though , agreed .

But what about the Allwerman guys ( aka the really clever cheaters ) ?

And what about all those honest men like Stuart who find out in their
post-mortem they were in fact playing against Deep Fritz ? Will all of them be
strong enough to just take it as a man/woman and not take revenge next game ?

When it is about being caught , something else : this is not a privately run
event where you can simply ban someone who you suspect : this is an official
worldwide official sports tournament ; and if you ban someone _you_ are the one
who has to prove ; I wouldn't be too surprised if trying to ban people even
could end at court .

I could go on like that for quite some time adding more arguments I think are
reasonable but this is futile .

I simply wonder what is the next thing the old men will work out ...
