I've even heard stories of people who have bought Fritz and then dragged their computer to the BestBuy store to have THEM install the program for them! No kidding. In such cases, that person could not posibly set up Crafty well for running in Winboard. There's also a certain amount of devided opinion about what is better to use, Winboard engines, or comercial engines, also some peole love or hate the Winboard interface (go figure!) and the same thing the other way around. If anything, I think Chessbase has profited from now incorporating the ability to run many Winboard engines in their interface, and also releasing native engine versions of a few Winboard engines like Crafty, Comet, Exchess, Faile, Inmichess, so I don't really see how Winboard could cut into profits from people who are just destined to spend the money on Chess programs anyhow.
