Wow.  I'm surprised anybody would even entertain doing a "month's worth
of work" for $1000.  That's incredibly low for good programming talent.
Then again, some of us don't consider this "work".

I don't think your idea is a bad one, though.  Open source anything is
good IMO.  Good luck!
