Go up one level in this thread
I just bought a magazine yesterday that comes with a 2 page review and the title
is "NTFS 5.0 vs. FAT32".
Using Winbench 99 v 1.1- Disk WinMark 99 there is no doubt that FAT32 systems
will perform better than NTFS 5.0. Some of the programs tested and the WinMarks
are: (higher WinMark = better) (machine: motherboard ABIT BX 133, Pentium III
700 MHz, 192 MB CAS3 RAM, HD IBM 75GXP 15 GB, video Elsa Erazor III 32 MB,
Windows 2000 Professional)
AVS/Express FAT32= 27425
NTFS = 21100
Frontpage 98 FAT32= 153250
NTFS = 92125
Microstation SE FAT32= 41925
NTFS = 29200
Photoshop 4 FAT32= 9928
NTFS = 9005
Premiere 4.2 FAT32= 19450
NTFS = 13475
SoundForge 4.0 FAT32= 29675
NTFS= 23450
Visual C++ 5.0 FAT32= 27550
NTFS = 17825
Global Winbench 99 v1.1 DiskWinMarks were:
for Business applications: FAT32= 10500 NTFS= 7240
for High-End applications: FAT32= 24225 NTFS= 18600
Tests were repeated 4 times, the data shown here are arithmetic means.
They conclude that you should use NTFS _ONLY_ if you need high security.
(well, IMHO if you needed high security you'd better run FreeBSD...)
PS.: The magazine is "PCs" No. 20 (pp. 20-21) - it is edited in brazilian
portuguese only.
