Would you consider a neural network playing chess to be intelligent? I have a fair idea that when it gets playing, its thought processes will be inscrutable, so it won't really be possible to tell how it's doing it. It will learn from experience: is that a characteristic of intelligence? Personally, I think that playing chess (exercising skill) is a part of intelligence. LEARNING chess is a deeper part of intelligence. Simon
