Last rating list I have (pretty old) John is rated 2544. >BTW, I think this match will be more interesting than every GM challenge game >put together. It surely is the moment of truth for Rebel to survive the anti-computer strategies of v/d Wiel. I would have preferred Karpov, Timman, Yussupov and a lot of others above John v/d Wiel as I think he is much more dangerous than his rating implies. I went through the game Rebel8 played against v/d Wiel as listed on the live-web-site and checked the errors of Rebel8. Fortunately the Rebel of 4 years later does not play them. So since today I am more positive and I hope Rebel will be the moment of truth for v/d Wiel too losing its first game(s) against a computer! [D]6k1/1pp3pp/p4b2/2P5/2b2p2/2P5/P5PP/1K1RN3 b - - id Van der Wiel, J. - Comp Rebel 8.0; am Bxc3; This is the main blunder of Rebel8, too greedy. The current Rebel does not even consider 29..Bxc3? from the very start. I guess the better evalution of the bishop pair is responsible for that. How do other peograms do? >Good work, Ed! Thanks and a Happy New Year too! Ed
