Subject: ERT Beta 3 and feedback wanted

Beta 3 of the Engine Research Tool can be downloaded from:

http://www.lokasoft.nl/uk/downloads.htm

While there, also make sure you have the latest winboard adapter.

Changed in beta 3:

- Detect winboard engine resign.
- Detect winboard draws.
- Fixed problem with parameters in EnginePath in engineext.ini.
- Record timestamp in logfile.
- Added 200 mS Operator time per move in autoflag.
- Scores recorded in fraction of a pawn.
- Mate in n values decoded.
- Show timecontrol in PGN header.
- Show version info in PGN and logfile.

Some clarification of the operator time; During testing I found some engines
sometimes lost on time, after some investigation I realized this happens because
the engines clocks would get out of sync with the ERT clocks. When tranfering
the move from engine A to B there are some small delays which are not much but
accumulated over 40 moves can add up to several seconds. So it could happen the
engine thought it still had a few seconds left, ERT still would flag the
program. To avoid this I have added a 200 milliseconds operator time per move.
Over 40 moves this is 8 seconds, now autoflagging only takes place when the ERT
clock goes negative by the 'number of moves' * 200 mS.

For the moment I will take a break in further development, still I think it has
turned into a usefull tool.

I would like to get some feedback on the following:

- What features would you like to see ?
- Are there essential things missing ?
- Would you like to see auto232 support added ?
- Would you like to see UCI support added ?
- Remote engine support via the LAN ?
- Support for more than 2 engines and full tournament support ?
- Would you prefer a small standalone tool or have it integrated in RT/CP ?

You may send your feedback to: support@lokasoft.nl or just post in this forum.

Lex
