Yes the P4 is certainly not a machine for Computer Chess. A P3 or Athlon would be better. In general the dury is still out on the P4 - see www.tomshardware.com. Other programs do: Gambit Tiger usually ~ 270 kn/s Shredder 5 ~ 250 kn/s CM 8000 ~ 100 kn/s (poor!) Goliath ChessBase I've seen at 1950 kn/s Apart from Chess I bought the machine for development and it seems great at least compared to my 450 MHz P4! Regards, Steve Maughan
