I am of the opinion that, if things continue the way they are, John van der Weil will win the match. He's learning about the machine - the machine is learning nothing. He's not likely to get over tired with a big break before next week's games either. I therefore think we should do all we can to help Ed. I think we should start by making a list of suggestions which will help him in this match: * adjust the clocks so that Rebel will think longer on the earlier moves, but not so long on the later moves. Rebel doesn't seem to have a problem in the endgame phase * significantly alter the style of play from game to game. JVDW must not be allowed to get too good a feel for what his opponent is going to do. This tactic certainly helped DB in 1997 - it varied its style much more than it did in 1996 That's all I can think of for now - any more suggestions? -g
