GM John van der Wiel with all kind of tactical shortcomings (missing
win after win the first 2 games) finally won the third game,
how in the world can you call that lucky, especially if you
look to *how* he won it?

I think John clearer as anyone else shows that chess is not only
about tactics. After you manage to not blunder away your own pieces,
the game is about much more as just tactics, it's about strategic
and technical insight!

In that respect the 3d game is of major importance, i can't remember
a 6 game 40 in 2 level match versus GMs after april 1997. Not to mention
a match against a GM who has some experience in playing computers even
though his normal openings are no good to play a computer (he plays
with black for example regurarly caro-kann, i play that too and if
you see my score with caro-kann against the computer it's a big
number versus black 0).

Next week 3 games to go. 2 of them John will have white.
