That is the main question. http://home.interact.se/~w100107/jul00rpt.htm This is Chris Carson's collection of 40/2 games courtesy of Tony Hedlund's webpage. This list is very usefull as I think more tournament control comp - human games are on the horizon. The Kasparov site has reported that many viewers take in such events. Below are the results of four popular commercial programs that have logged in the most games at 40/2. It all looks clearer on the site but there they are grouped in order of performance rating. All these programs have respectable results. Rebel appears to be doing fine for the hardware used. Deep Junior's 2702 (9 games) on eight P3 700's is remarkable. Hiarcs on the slower machines in no pushover. Never count Fritz out either. /W Mp MHZ PR Opp W D L Tot Reb 9 Pmmx 225 2599 2249 7 1 0 8 Reb 10 P2 400 2554 2268 5 2 0 7 Reb-Cen K6 600 2537 2537 2 4 2 8 Reb-Cen P3 500 2515 2395 4 5 1 10 Fritz 6/SSS P3- 4x 500 2635 2555 4 4 2 10 Fritz 6 P3 500 2551 2351 4 1 1 6 Fritz 6 K7 500 2394 2349 3 4 2 9 DJ 6 P3- 8x 700 2702 2702 2 5 2 9 DJ 6 P2-2x 450 2519 2319 3 3 0 6 Hiarcs 6 P2 350 2611 2268 6 1 0 7 Hiarcs 6 Pmmx 266 2598 2498 3 4 1 8 Hiarcs 6 Pmmx 200 2479 2239 3 2 0 5 > If so, we can compare the results. > If not, the Ed is the only one who dares, which makes me think that is the >only one capable to play that strong is such conditions. Ed's been bold in providing interesting and strong human opponents under match play setting. These are the conditions that are good for the Gm - no surprise opponents, traditional time controls, fair playing conditions. Chessbase programs also involve their programs in human competion. They also benefit from the added coverage and public exposure they get from the Kasparov site and TWIC. All good for computer chess.
