That's odd since my younger kids' machine is only P90 with Win98 and while not very fast it is Ok, not worse than CM6k they had before. On my PIII-800, Win98 CM8k UI runs very nicely. There must be some system DLL clobbered or some registry setting. Maybe you should try uninstal and instal with different options.
