When playing for my home team I'm often used as a giant killer playing black
against a strong opponent and I'm not supposed to lose. The gameplan I use is to
never get behind on time, that is the primary rule. Secondly I play a semi open
game thats not totally dead but I play it without forcing any complications,
often playing only defence with only a slightly worse game. And then in his time
preassure or when he makes a hasty non forced move I invest some of my bonus
time for error checking. If I play white I play some opening that is almost
totally equal like the french exchange against the french or a tothless setup
against the modern and french, forcing my opponent to invest time and possibly
some positional weakening to get some initiative going. These strategems work
best when the opponent is in a 'must' win situation. But the main weapon is the
time preassure, as it's possible to play a solid game using little time. And
even if my opponent manages to get some advantage there will probably be some
tactical mistakes that give a second and third chance as long there is time
preassure and the position is alive. And dont forget to sacrifice something
after a long think in your opponents timescramble if you are desperate.
