First of all I trust the words of someone who has tried to adapt his engine to
every conceivable GUI there is, ie. that the engine receives a "new" command
clearing hash.

Secondly, I've tried to determine through observation whether the search of a
WinBoard engine under Shredder differ when receiving an expected move (the
response determined by the PV and therefore presumably stored in hash(?)) or an
unexpected move. I didn't notice any difference. It looked the same.

When using the "Debug mode" option I noticed that the engine receives a movelist
before each move. How can that work without a "new" command?

The difference is easier to spot under Chessbase. So you can generally tell what
engines have the correct WinBoard adapter implementation by looking at the
output.

Mogens.
