I don't really have a way to compare the two executables, but it is generally possible to get 10% with processor-specific optimizations. MSVC seems quite good, so it might do this well or better. I don't know which fits a PII best, unfortunately... And be aware that it is possible that the P6 version won't run on a P5 or any machine without the conditional move instruction. P6's have it, P5's don't. I don't know about the PII...
