First, an explanation of the words I chose:
The original post was entitled "Another GUI scandal?".
"Another" was a reference to problems caused by the (original) Chessbase
protocol, about which people seem to have forgotten. I'm sorry about this
obscure reference. I thought everyone would know about it.
"Scandal" was a reference to what I saw as their late admission that there was a
problem. (The admission is contained in effect in their documentation which I
cite later.)
The question mark was used because I don't know that there is a problem with S5.

In this, the original post:
http://www.icdchess.com/forums/1/message.shtml?148547
I asked whether or not the S5 GUI causes certain problems.

In this post:
http://www.icdchess.com/forums/1/message.shtml?148653
an engine author states clearly that there are problems of the type that I asked
about.

In this post:
http://www.icdchess.com/forums/1/message.shtml?148788
beginning about halfway down, I cited the CHESSBASE documentation of the way
THEY do it. This documentation can be found here:
http://www.chessbase.com/Products/engines/winboard/tech.htm
My extract began with "BEGIN CHESSBASE DOCUMENTATION", and ended with "END
CHESSBASE DOCUMENTATION". It contained my comments in square brackets. (I made a
mistake: Crafty does not recognize a "fritz" command.) At the end of that post,
I restated my question, whether or not the S5 interface does it this way or not.

In this reply:
http://www.icdchess.com/forums/1/message.shtml?148653
Dr. Hyatt gives his opinion that IF that is the way Chessbase does it, it is
"_horrible_", etc.

In this post in a different thread:
http://www.icdchess.com/forums/1/message.shtml?148981
That previously mentioned engine author referred to his findings, UNDER THE
SHREDDER5 GUI, and Dr. Hyatt gave his opinion of the consequences to Crafty,
IF true. (You have already replied to that post.)

This procedure sounds good to me. I'm sure you were careful. So maybe there is
no problem. That would be good.

I don't know how it would be proved.
It would be helpful if the programmers would comment. But, where ARE they? I
also posted, asking whether or not Millennium still exists. Although this is the
time to promote the product, their website "news" hasn't been updated since 20
Dec 00, and then, it is talking about legal problems!

I studied the "UCI Protocol" documentation that can be downloaded from the
"Millennium?" website, but it didn't help much. Also, Crafty under S5 would not
(yet) be using this protocol.

Concluding hypothesis:
Maybe, if the hosted engine is not UCI compliant, then S5 uses the ordinary
Winboard protocol. That would be very good!
