Yep, the code is fairly nasty inside. It needs a ground-up rewrite. I can't blame other people for not contributing much. To address another point in this thread, Mark Williams got a new job and didn't have any more time to contribute to WinBoard. I'm certainly grateful for his efforts. Besides adding features, he did a good deal of cleanup work, and his contribution had very few bugs for its size.
