It is clearly fair to add opening lines to Rebel's book.

I have a question for you.
Is it fair to read chess books before a tournament that I play?

I think that it is fair if I do not do it during the game but by your logic
people can say that it is unfair because if I use an idea that I read in the
book then the book won the game and I did not win the game.
