Subject: Komputer Korner Korrespondence Kup, various Mac chess software

Author: Richard A. Fowell (fowell@netcom.com)

Date: 13:36:47 02/08/98

There is currently a round-robin tournament being conducted between
Chessmaster 5500, Crafty 4.81, Fritz 5, Rebel 9 and HIARCS 6
on the Internet at a time control of 8 hours on a Pentium P5/133
(or equivalent). You can review the games in progress at the
Gambitsoft site - http://www.gambitsoft.com/kup.htm.

Since the HIARCS-CRAFTY game just left book, and since the commentary I
prepared used several useful Macintosh chess utilities that other Mac
users might like to know about, I'm posting the game and commentary
here. (Sources for Mac software at the end)

This is HIARCS first non-book move!

Unlike many KKKKup moves, this is one where the long time control
actually changed a program's choice of move!

After 805 seconds, HIARCS finds 0-0, which is "book" in this position,
based on the Essentia Mac database.

Text Capture FKEY that allows me to capture HIARCS PVs)
