Windows ME + 98lite.

If you don't want to buy 98lite, forget about WinME.

98lite de-bloats Windows by letting you remove (or better: not install) some of
the crap from MS.

When you remove the extra fat, WinME runs just fine, does not take more disk
space than Win98, and I find it better than Windows 98. But you need a recent
computer, because MS has removed a lot of the old hardware support from the OS.

They have also removed the real mode DOS, but actually it's still there. The
only problem is that you will need to boot from a floppy in order to go into
pure DOS mode. I need this mode from time to time, so I have created a boot
floppy and it works fine. DOS boxes still work very well if you don't need a
real mode DOS.

Once again: 98lite is the only medicine that will help your computer to swallow
Windows without pain.
