SAN is Standard Algebraic Notation. CM8000 didn't completely follow the WinBoard
spec on what notations engines can use to send their moves. The King sends its
moves in coordinate, so that's all that CM8000 supported. It now supports (with
the patch) both coordinate and SAN. However, it will NOT support foreign
versions of SAN, where the piece names are in other languages (as is often seen
in posts here).

Dr. Hyatt said that newer versions of Crafty would use SAN rather than
coordinate, and I guess that day has come.
