Pipe Servers are based on the so called "Named Pipes" functionallity, available under Windows NT, Windows 2000 (and NOT Win95/98) and for (almost ?) all Unix platforms. A named pipe is, in a way, similar to a file in writing data (data will be added to the named pipe), but reading data will delete the data in the named pipe. Under WinNT/2000 you can access named pipes in a Windows network (= share the named pipe), and you can set permissions, like for regular files. Manfred
