I haven't seen this discussed here, but this is why I use Fritz far more than all the others combined: I often want to analyze a position in considerable depth, including many branches at each move. Fritz 6, and I assume the other ChessBase engines, have the necessary features to keep track of this back-and-forth process. Specifically, you can go up and down various variations (true for many chess apps) and you can click on any existing variation and PROMOTE it above its "parent" variation or DEMOTE it below its "child" variation. This is incredibly useful and I'm surprised it's not in other apps (not that I've tried every last one). Also, you can insert a diagram anywhere into the analysis. When you copy the analysis to the clipboard and subsequently past it into Word (etc.), a very professional, fine-looking document is the result (especially nice on a high-res printer). (This is not to say I prefer ChessBase products in all areas. I plan to buy Chess Assistant over ChessBase.)
