There are a couple of more or less credible reasons for that decision. 1) Most of the engines that implement the technical specifications as mentioned by Chessbase get reasonable performance. Possible (likely) shortcomings are too advanced to explain for a nonexpert like myself. 2) Some people would like to use the engines under their favourite CB GUI instead of WinBoard with or without performance problems. That aside, I might add a line mentioning that the optimal GUI for WinBoard engines is WinBoard when it comes to performance. If you want to go on a crusade you'll have to make your own page I'm afraid. Regards, Mogens
