Subject: Why not?

Another major tournament, another major expense for the programmers. O.k.
maybe not all of them, but some... I mean, we have this great thing called the
internet... why can't IPCCC and future MAJOR tournaments be played over the net?
I know, I know, it is considered a soical event wish I think is very cool, but,
if it were played over the net, more programs could be involved. O.k maybe
problems could arise... but so long as kasparovchess.com keeps out of it, their
shouldn't be any technical problems... :) ok bad joke, but you get the point.
Also, by playing on the net you wouldn't have to worry about carrying around
expense computer hardware and so on... sure their are time differences, but
that's nothing that a pot of coffee couldn't handle. It seems reasonable to me.
I know that there have been some tournaments played over the net, and they have
worked well.

Now you are probaly thinking to yourself .o0(This person is such a stupid fool)
O.k, let me try something else:

Maybe you could have a sort of half and half type of thing. Like for example if
a program couldn't make the trip then the program can play from the internet?
That way, there is still a social event, and all programs could be involved.
That sounds reasonable? Right?
What do you think?
