Reminded me of the famous story where the great boxer of the past, Sullivan,
went into the rowdiest saloon on the docks and announced loudly: "I can lick (=
'beat the crap out of' --> for the foreign readers) any man in this room!".
After proving his point a number of times, he won enough publicity to be
sponsored for a number of official fights.
Sokolov's statement was little different, claiming not only victory but that it
was due to elementary weaknesses in Shredder 5. This commented not only on the
WC, but on the programs that don't achieve those same results. The gauntlet was
thrown down and promptly picked up. No big deal.
