I had an idea about recapture extensions some time ago. Since I for philosophical reasons don't like path dependant extensions I found the idea of triggering the extension based on material left on the board more appealing. That makes extensions on desperado combinations equally likely unless all recaptures happen outside the search depth, but check/only move extensions et al would make that less likely.
