Subject: First Impression with gandalf

Hi all:
I have just finished two games with gandalf, both with me handling white at 40
moves in 90 minutes. My Pc runs at 500 Mhz and hash tables are more than 60 Mb.
And my impression is not very impressive. I had heard about the positional play
of this program but at least in these two games there is more a pasive atittude
than positional acumen. In the first game, played in the CB Gui, Gandalf did
not take not even a pawn. He just tried to parry my threaths and finally he got
what he wanted: a dead position I declared a draw because the rule of three
yawns repetition. The second one, played in WB gui, was more alive because I
tried to push a little more in order to get some fun. Gandalf was almost all the
time more than 0.50 points behind me and was never capable of pushing the king
side in the opening he chose, a king indian defense. At last, around move 50, I
declared draw -with 0,75 in my favour- due to lack of time - yes, I must work
from time to time- and exhaustion of my patience.
I wonder if something is wrong in my settings or what. There is somebody with
the same impression of gandalf being somewhat indifferent in his playing
ability?
And not, I did not save the games.
Fernando
