I've been converting Arasan to work with the beta versions of Winboard/xboard 4.2. Recently I've been working with xboard 4.2 under Linux (Mandrake 7.2). Arasan seems to work ok running as a single chess program under xboard, both against a manual opponent and on ICC. However, I've tried matching Arasan against Crafty 18.1 using xboard, with Arasan as the first program and Crafty as the second, and I'm having problems. If I set "san=0" in Arasan's feature list, then Arasan sends a move but when it gets Crafty's reply, xboard is sending me a move like "e5" with no carriage return after it, so I hang waiting for the carriage return that never comes. I kind of expected a move like "e7-e5": doesn't san=0 mean I'm not prepared to accept SAN notation? And I'm puzzled about the missing '\n'. If I set "san=1", then I get a different behavior. Crafty rejects the first move from xboard, saying something "illegal move (ambiguous): d4go". Then xboard reports move 'd4' rejected by second chess program". So it seems xboard thinks it sent "d4", but Crafty thinks it has "d4go". Anyone seen this before, or have a possible explanation? --Jon
