While your processor is WAY below the minimum spec of a PII-233, the program
SHOULD still, at least, start. You won't be happy with the performance on that
machine, however.

As for your P4, since the same problem is happening, I'm almost certain that
this is a sound card issue (or, as another user posted, possibly a LACK OF sound
card issue). Chessmaster requires some kind of sound-playing device.

There are other hardware configurations and settings that can also cause
Chessmaster to fail to start. I should also mention here that the patch will
actually INFORM the user that sound failed to initialize, rather than merely
(and rudely) hanging. Voice modems can cause problems. Unfortunately, each modem
is different, so there isn't anything generic I can say other than possibly
fiddling with your sound card's settings until something works.

There will also be a special debugging INI setting that will allow users to
start up Chessmaster.
