Subject: In round 13-15 of the Cadaque's Tourney Shredder 5 beat Nimzo 8 !

This is a quick translation of IM Hannu Wegner:

According to my opinion the victory of Shredder 5 against Nimzo 8 could have
quite more highly failed. Shredder 5 was already brought to some portions by the
selection of the respective initialization version in difficulties. Like already
in the match against Deep Fritz usually Nebenvarianten of Shredder 5 were
played. Contrary to the match against Deep Fritz in this match not only
Nebenvarianten, separate simply bad initialization selected.

An example is the 15. Portion. Like already in the 4. Round (there against
junior 6) played very passive 5... Le7 against the lady Indian with 4.a3?!. If
black is to absolutely go a side path, then at least 5... g6 (often applied by
Romanischin) are the correct way. In the portion sequence Shredder 5 landed
immediately in an unpleasantly passive position.

Nimzo had more in the portions from the play whenever the own center position
could be referred and also fastened. Static farmer structures seem to be
appropriate for Nimzo 8 well. Good examples are here the 1. Portion (Shredder
5 goes with 5... b5?! again times a side path) and the 5. Portion in addition,
the 8. Portion. Above all the 5.Partie pleases me from view of Nimzo 8 well.
Shredder 5 rochiert with its king directly into the danger zone. My judgement
begins Shredder with 12... e5 on Abwege to already go. Black in any case must
try the opponent one as in the portion activity shown to prevent in such
positions. Possibly the black king belongs also on the lady wing. With 15...
0-0 black provided a " eleven-meter " for the opponent, whereby he placed at the
same time a 1,2m to large torwart in the gate.

To regard somewhat unpleasantly the play way of Nimzo 8 works in the 13.
Portion. In addition, this blockade strategy is " Nimzo typical ".

Shredder 5 could against it particularly in positions in which flexible farmers
in motion could turn out advantages for itself to register. See for this the
exemplary example in the 2. Portion. In addition, 3., 4. and 17. It shows
portion well that Shredder understands 5 it very well the own farmers in motion
to set. Particularly impressively is above all the 2.Partie, in which Shredder
converts text book-like the own farmer majority at the Konigsfluegel into a
crucial advantage. One notes that with 26.g4 an exchange is prevented by light
figures. In the portion sequence black can be waiting the end with frights
because of the developing lack of space only

In the 9. Portion sacrifices Nimzo 8 incomprehensible-proves quality in the
final game. Even if black should win the white farmer d6, then white in a tower
final game had hardly a defeat to fear, if it can attack the opposing a-farmer
with its tower of " in the back ".

In the 11. Portion could attain Nimzo with an unusual material relation (4
light figures against 2 towers and a hand fully farmers) clear advantage. In
the final game Nimzo commits a crucial error however with 64.Lxb6, after which
Shredder attains a Remisstellung can. With 64... Tb8 an
d 66... Txb6 and following exchange a position develops for farmers, in the
whites with 2 Springer against 2 farmers plays. In the conclusion position it
should be noted that the position Remis is, if the farmer f6 is struck would be
white able the black g-farmer to remove, then could still
win white. Even if Shredder 5 with 66... Txb6! still negative evaluation
displays, then this is however the only emergency route, which is pursued by
Shredder 5 in a practical portion. And whereupon it arrives nevertheless, or
not? I assume that programs without Tablebases do not find this way.

In the end also few Genialitaet of Shredder. In the 12. Portion is provoked
black to the course 10... Lxc3+. After 11. Sxc3 would hang g3 and after
11.bxc3 would have black for the weakened Koeningstellung a certain compensation
in the bad white farmer position. With not even obvious course the 11. Kf2!
in astonishing simple way large advantage.

With a better initialization selection Shredder 5 could have obtained a still
better result surely. Shredder 5 showed a substantially abwechlungsreicheres
chess compared with Nimzo 8.
