It was put on the back burner, as usual. For almost all content, there is a
contract with an external provider (IM Josh Waitzkin for the Josh Games, Bruce
Pandolfini for his tests and tutorials, GM Larry Evans for the Classic Games,
etc.). In other words, nobody "in-house" is qualified to create this kind of
content. There's only so much money and time to go around, and the above content
always is considered a higher priority.

For the next version, however, it appears that GM Larry Evans will be creating a
new opening book.

You also bring up the question of size. It is quite possible that the size
limitation will be removed. But, then again, it's always a question of time vs.
feature priority. And the opening book editor is not considered a high-priority
feature, as probably only 1 in 1000 users (if that) bother to actually "use" it.
