It depends on the program, but I did some simple test with
a (simple) program of mine, and the results were something like:

Control: Athlon 700 mhz
Thunderbird @ 1ghz : 65% faster (note clock is 43% faster)
PIII 600: 9% slower (note clock is 14% slower)

So mhz for mhz, the Athlon was outperformed.

I measured "faster" and "slower" by dividing the Athlon nps into
the delta nps.  I don't recall the exact numbers.  YMMV.

I'm sure part of that is due to cache, and this program was very
small and didn't use hash.
